I start this series with inspirations from the works of Amedeo Modigliani, an Italian artist painting in the early 1900's, best known for his elongated figures and nudes. Using his basic forms, I experiment through collages the background, evoking different emotions each time. While working on these pieces, it was no longer the details of these particular women that intrigued me but instead a feeling. I explore and focus on this feeling in the second part of the series. The women I portray are women from anywhere and everywhere. They are women whose simple curves define their sensuality. Brushstrokes remain black and bold and yet, with every curve, with every line, there emerges a sense of tranquility. These women are no longer "in your face". Nor do they want to disturb you. Instead they just want to be.
